Amendment 22: Presidents limited to two terms

Section 1.
No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of President more than once. But this Article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President when this Article was proposed by Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within which this Article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term.
Section 2.
This article shall be inoperative unless it shall have been ratified as an amendment to the Constitution by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several States within seven years from the date of its submission to the States by the Congress.

We have an amendment that is one I actually remember fondly, where the President is not to hold office more than twice. Typically a term of 4 years each, totalling 8 years maximum. This was put in place to solve the issue of having a monarchy type system instead of a democracy. Presidents could have been elected to stay in office for longer than 8 years and this caused issues of party favoritism and was a general con to extended office stays. This is important in making sure that the citizens have a chance to vote and influence their legislature or their goals through election of a new party, or keep the same for another 4 years.

This is a well animated summary of the struggle of Congress to get presidential terms in place. Even stating that they tried 270 times to do so unsuccessfully. That is a precursor of what was to come when FDR won 4 terms in a row. This pushed Congress to make the 22nd amendment a reality. At the end it also asks a good question relating the terms to preventing tyranny which I believe to be true. It is important to keep our President and democracy from feeling too much like we are being ruled. We want the people of the United States to hold the power to change their government.
